Movie Night on the island!

Island Flicks & Flying Kicks: The Karate Kid Screening

Much like Daniel LaRusso relocating from Jersey to sunny California, I made the treacherous journey from backyard to Greentree Island—armed not with karate skills, but with an outdoor theater setup, a folding table, and a lot of hope.

Transporting the movie gear felt like its own training montage. There were logistical battles: wrangling rogue extension cords, fending off sound issues I couldn’t diagnose in the dark (apologies to anyone who thought Mr. Miyagi was whispering directly to them), and surviving an aggressive mosquito uprising that hit right around Act II.

Shoutout to Larry—our Park & Pond MVP—whose house was just close enough to let us stretch what may be a new record in continuous power cord usage. If there were an Olympic event for “powering a projector from a distant outlet across a body of water,” we’d medal.

Despite it all, it was 100% worth it. Families gathered, some for their first ever Karate Kid viewing (!), and witnessed the timeless lessons of wax on/wax off, inner balance, and not underestimating a man who trims bonsai with spiritual precision.

Big thanks to everyone who braved the bugs and breezes. More outdoor movies are on the way this summer—possibly with fewer sound issues, but definitely just as much heart.

Stay tuned. And remember: man who catch movie night with chopsticks accomplish anything.
