Flotilla!
Pond Flotilla: Float Your Boat (Literally)
Posing for the photo op, we were looking gooooood.
We did the thing.
We wrangled our kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, pedal boats, and left one highly suspicious inflatable on the shore — and set sail (ish) on our very own neighborhood pond.
It was hot. Like, “bake-your-butt-to-the-boat-seat” hot. But did that stop us? Absolutely not. We paddled, peddled, and slap-splashed our way around the pond like seasoned maritime pros (or just neighborhood folks with more optimism than coordination).
Wildlife sightings included turtles, fishies, and zero confirmed prehistoric mega-turtles or Bucky the Beaver — which only makes their eventual return that much more legendary. Music echoed across the water, and hydration levels were maintained with everything from sparkling water to “grown-up juice boxes,” and some truly enviable tan lines were earned.
Midway through, Larry — our very own park & pond coordinator extraordinaire — met us on the bridge like a dockside hero, armed with a garden hose to cool us off and refill the official water bucket to keep our super soakers locked and loaded. A true MVP move.
Once back on dry land (some of us more gracefully than others), we gathered with snacks and beverages to swap tales of nautical glory, backyard envy, and why the pond is exactly the right size for our skill level.
Thanks to everyone who came out — what a floatin’ good time. Keep your eyes peeled for a possible Fall Flotilla if the weather (and our schedules) cooperate. The pond’s not done with us yet. 🌊🛶🍹
